New York Auto Careers Begin at Lincoln Tech
4 out of 5 graduates are now working in the field, thanks to dealership connections
Since 2006, Lincoln Tech’s Queens campus has helped nearly 4,000 students build hands-on automotive skills that have lead them to New York auto careers working on today’s technologically-sophisticated cars, trucks and SUVs. According to the latest G&E report submitted to ACCSC, 80% of graduates are now working in the industry – meaning four out of five grads are out in the field, getting paid to do what they love.
Graduates of the Automotive Technology program have started careers in many different kinds of operations, including new car dealerships, national repair companies, fleet services and independently-owned repair shops. For 10 years the Queens campus has fostered relationships with employers and the community at large in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Westchester, Long Island, and Staten Island.
The campus has been featured in an education industry publication for its close connection to employers, and is actually housed in the Greater New York Automobile Dealer Association's (GNYADA) Center for Automotive Education and Training. Kate Clymer, Director of Career Services at the Queens campus, works directly with hiring managers at auto dealerships and other facilities – and she’s quick to point out that at Lincoln Tech, they look at student success as a family affair:
“The staff and faculty work together here at Lincoln Tech,” she says. “There is no issue too small or challenge too big for our family to handle together. All of our Instructors - even our Director of Education - are ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified. Students can turn to highly qualified staff that are totally dedicated to their success.”
A Commitment to the Community
Clymer also cites Lincoln Tech’s community relationships as a key factor in their success rate placing students in new careers. These relationships include not only those with the automotive trade associations, dealers and repair shops who hire technicians, but also with charities and community service organizations. The Queens campus also makes it a point annually to honor the outstanding U.S. veterans who have returned home from their military service and started new career paths through hands-on training, and each year takes part in the world-famous New York Auto Show.
Since opening its doors 10 years ago, the Queens Campus has benefitted from the critical partnership with GNYADA right next door. The auto dealers’ organization serves more than 400 dealerships in the Greater NY area, and provides a vast network of potential employers for Queens graduates. This $30 million education and training facility was designed as the nucleus for automotive training in the New York area.
With this kind of history and track record, it’s no wonder thousands of aspiring auto techs have made Lincoln Tech in Queens their school of choice for career training.
